Gym Program at Center Communities,
A Bargain for BrooklineCAN Members
For decades, scientists at the Institute on Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife have been exploring the most effective approaches to building exercise programs for older people. The result is an individualized exercise program that is being offered to BrooklineCAN members at a bargain rate.
The Get Up & Go program, offered by Center Communities of Brookline, helps participants improve in all components of fitness—cardiovascular, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Exercise programs are individualized to meet the specific needs of participants and draw from tai chi, yoga, strength- and balance-training, and meditation.
Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 - 3:30 pm. Generally, workouts take between 30-60 minutes. Cost is $100 down and $75/month ($125/month for a couple). The initial payment of $100 is being waived for BrooklineCAN members.
The Get Up & Go program includes a comprehensive evaluation of participants' strength, balance and mobility before and after training.
