Get the Message?
A message board, or forum, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages. They differ from chat rooms in that messages are at least temporarily archived.
Message boards have a specific set of jargon associated with them; e.g. a single conversation is called a "discussion." Discussions are grouped within "categories" that allow users to navigate the message board according to their interests.
Depending on the message board's settings, users can be anonymous or have to register with the forum and then subsequently log in to post messages.
Serality-powered communities can use message boards to facilitate communications between members. Message boards can be public or for members only. Members can "subscribe" to discussions, categories, or even the whole message board if they want to receive email notifications when other members added comments.
Message boards are a great way to communicate quickly in order to ask a question or make an announcement. General announcements might be a great category that a community can use to post information that everyone needs to know.
You must register and login to use the collaborative tools.
